Concerning the nature of lies and the feline and elven languages and attitudes.

It has been noted by the great philosopher {Sits on the Fence to better Observe the World} (An approximate translation, as it would be difficult to convey an accurate phonetic representation using human characters. I will refer to him in future articles as Sits on the Fence, as he is more commonly known) that the nature of lies is truth. He says that all things are essentially true, and that the difference between truth and lies is that one is the truth that is, and the other is the truth we wish to be. If we wish and repeat these latter enough, they can become the truth that is. What are we but the things we say we are? It follows then, that it is impossible to lie, and that the action of lying is in fact merely an attempt to influence and change the truth that is. The truth that is, is, in it's entirety impossible to grasp, and therefore we tell ourselves what pieces of it we can grasp, along with the truths that we wish to be. When dealing with cats, it is helpful to remember that no matter what a cat tells you, he does not believe he is lying, but rather trying to impress upon you the truth he wishes to be. Consider also the elves (gone though they are from this realm of being) in whose language it is impossible to say a thing which one does not believe to be the truth that is (whether one is wrong or not is a different matter, as it is belief which confers the ability to speak) (also oaths made in the elven tounge are binding and impossible to break outright (though not obliquely)). Elves have become masters of concealing information, using partial truths, and misleading comments in order to decieve without lying outright. Instead of telling the truth they wish you to believe, they will try to lead you into forming a truth you wish to believe which is concurrent with that which they wish you to believe. Incedentally, elves always had a great deal of trouble dealing with cats. For one thing, because it so deeply ingrained in the minds of cats that all they say and do is truth, of one sort or another, that they were never bound by the strictures of the elven language, which relies on belief to detect falsehood. If one doesn't believe a thing is false, then it isn't a lie, irregardless of whether or not it is accurate. That really threw the elves for a loop, but even worse, they could not respond in kind, because, to a creature as naturally suspicious as a cat (a suspicion grown out of the belief that all that they are told by others is not necessarily the truth that is, but rather the truth that others want them to believe) nothing is taken at face value, and they are difficult to mislead, much less be lead to mislead themselves, and the best an elf can hope for is to withold information, and if they are clever enough, to do so without it being noticed that they are witholding it. Needless to say, elves and cats have never gotten along well, the proud (snobbish) elves disliking to deal with a creature who was more skilled in deciet and manipulation than themselves (not that they would ever admit that they constantly participated in such activities, and why bother when they had gullible humans in whose lives to meddle), and the cats, for thier part, disliking to stay long with people who were so stingy with food.

(I apologize for any confusion my phrasing may have caused, but the concepts of the truth that is, and especially the various truths that are wished to be, do not translate well and I would have much rather preffered to use the feline words, but as I have mentioned previously, phonetic feline does not lend itself to human letters)

I think I need a little more egg-nog in my vodka....

Or is that the other way around?
Yep so, Merry Christmas. Sorry I haven't been updating as much lately.

Some insights on the language of cats.

The feline language does not have a word for happiness. The closest translations mean something more like contentment, or in on case, satiation.
While there are a few words that translate into things like exuberance or playfullness, these are more descriptors of behavior than emotion.
The reason for this lack of concept is probably due to the fact that cats do not view happiness as an abstract absolute condition, but rather as a condition of being comfortable.
They tend to feel that humans could be saved a lot of trouble if they spent less time trying to find happiness, and more time learning to be content with what they have.

Open (Holiday) Season

Well it's that time of year when life in retail gets....interesting.
And I thought finals week was exciting....
Anyway, if anyone feels the urge to get me a Christmas present, heroscape expansion packs run somewhere around 10-12 dollars, I already have all of the Utgar's Rage sets, so anything else would be fine. Let me know if you get me something, and I'll reciprocate. :P

Guitar Hero II

Sweet Child of Mine is one of those songs you've known forever, but don't realize it until the first time you actually hear it, and then realize that despite having never heard it before, you recognize it.
Maybe it's just similar to various other songs I've loved in my life, but one way or another, it seems to fit.
Anyway, I hope to start regular blogging again. I'll make an effort to post whenever I come to the library to get online. So, till next time...
(as if anyone ever checks this thing anymore)
